Many of our military personnel are married and have
children. With two working parents, the salary of a military family is
minimal.
However, when a soldier/sailor (and in some
cases both parents) is deployed the other parent is left to care for the
children and cannot work a full time job. Many of these families are at
or below poverty level.
It is a common misconception that the military
affords all soldiers/sailors base housing and free food, utilities, etc.
Many of these families live off the base as the rule, not the exception.
Some of these spouses, who move with their soldier to various bases are
left close to the base from which their spouse was deployed from.
